best time to visit Malawi

  • May to October (the dry season) is the best time for wildlife viewing, when animals gather around the rivers and the bush is at its thinnest. Days are sunny (October can get extremely hot) and warm, with cool evenings ideal for campfires.

  • The green season (November to April) brings lush scenery and excellent birding, as migratory species arrive in abundance. Although some lodges close during the rains, this is a beautiful time for photographers and those seeking solitude and vibrant landscapes.

  • For lake stays, April to November offers the best combination of pleasant temperatures and clear water visibility.
